Regular Maintenance Prevents Three RV Problems
So, you bought an RV and now you wear more ‘hats’ than you ever thought possible. Not only do you drive that big vehicle, but you are also expected to know what to do about every problem. The friendly folks at Quality RV Resorts offer a few maintenance tips for common difficulties…
Maintenance Tips:
Tire Blowout
A tire blowout can ruin your vacation and potentially cause many dollars’ worth of damage to your RV. A likely cause of blowout is improper tire pressure. Always check your tire pressure before departing on your trip. External temperature fluctuations can cause the air pressure in your tires to fluctuate too. Check your tire pressure frequently, and don’t forget to check the spare tire as well.
Another common cause of blowout is excessively worn tires. Check the tread depth often and visually inspect for bulges or uneven wear. Regular maintenance is the key to rolling smoothly down the highway.
Leaky Roof
The usual cause for roof leaks is old or cracked roof sealant. Undetected or unrepaired water leaks can cause a tremendous amount of costly damage. Rubber RV roofs must have maintenance at least once a year. Fortunately, you can check for leaks around skylights, bathroom vents, and any other place where there is sealant on the roof and repair it yourself. Just get a tube of self-leveling sealant for the cracks and spread it evenly over the area.
No Battery Power for Slide-Outs, Jacks, or Anything Else
The most likely cause is a dead or bad battery. Many folks forget to disconnect the battery when the RV is not in use. This practice drains and damages the battery. Something else people neglect is regular battery maintenance. Your RV battery must stay filled with distilled water. Fix the problem by making sure your battery has distilled water. Then plug into shore power until it’s charged up again.
