1. Alexander Deussen Park
Houston offers an impressive acreage of park space beating the national average of 13.7 acres per 1000 residents with 23.6 acres per 1000 residents. This puts Houston in the top 10 most populous cities in total parkland. While visiting Houston Alexander Deussen Park is a must. 4. Brazoria National Wildlife Refuge
With 43,388 acres, this freshwater slough winds through salt marshes, offering rare, native bluestem prairie that graces the uplands. For bird watchers, Brazoria NWR is on a key location on the Texas Gulf, which helps Freeport draw one of the highest Audubon bird counts in the nation with more than 200 species. Look for alligators year-round on Big Slough and in refuge ponds. In dry seasons, their trails through the mud and excavated gator holes are easy to spot. 5. Missions National Historical Park
Step back in history at San Antonio’s Missions National Historical Park. With over 300 years of history, this park ground offers four mission sites with fun educational opportunities at each site.
